Job Titles: Development Officer, Campaigns and Donor Relations (FT, Exempt)


Development Officer, Planned Giving and Major Gifts (FT, Exempt)


Campaigns and Donor Relations position overview: Under the direction of the Director of Development, the position develops and executes strategic fundraising efforts, plans and develops special fundraising events, cultivates and solicits donors, plans and implements stewardship events, and manages mail/online/email communications with donors.


Assists in overall planning and implementation of development efforts, including capital and other special campaigns, analyzes data, manages prospect research, utilizes donor databases (DonorPerfect knowledge a plus), assists with grant-writing initiatives.


Planned Giving and Major Gifts position overview: Under the direction of the Director of Development, the position is responsible for implementing a comprehensive planned giving program – the Heritage Society – to secure future gifts for The Living Desert. Maintains timely and consistent contact with donors and potential donors in order to establish, sustain and enhance positive relationships leading to an initial gift, repeated gifts and upgraded gifts. Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards individuals capable of making significant gifts. Requires a knowledge of fund raising/development practices, standards, and reporting, specifically in the area of major and planned giving.


Both positions require minimum qualifications and knowledge of:


a. Personal computers, hardware, and software programs including; Word, Outlook, Excel, and fundraising software (preference given to DonorPerfect).


b. Advanced oral and written communication.


c. Office, file, and record organization.


d. Budgeting processes.


Bachelor’s degree and minimum five years’ experience in development work or comparable sales/marketing experience. Prior experience in annual giving, event management and donor relations is highly desirable. Will substitute applicable experience for part or all of the education requirement.
