LAKE & POND MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST – Rancho Casa Blanca

POSITION REPORTS TO: Operations Director


POSITION STATUS: Hourly/Non-exempt

RESPONSIBLE TO: Receives direction from the Landscape Foreman and/or the Operations Director. May receive direction from the Maintenance Foreman in the absence of the Landscape Foreman and the Operations Director.


HOURS: Full time 40 hours per week. Actual hours and workdays may vary depending upon the demands of the season. Employee may be required to respond to emergency situations after hours which pertain to his or her area of expertise 24 hours per day, seven days per week. On-call scheduling will be divided amongst all employees with similar job assignments in the Senior Level.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Demonstrate a balance of training, knowledge and experience in the position of lake maintenance specialist. Be able to perform with little or no direct supervision. Demonstrate above average skills and perform as a willing team member. As may be required in the performance of duties possess a valid California Driver’s License.


GENERAL FUNCTION OF POSITION: Maintain the system of lakes and streams at Rancho Casa Blanca. Check lakes and streams daily for proper water levels, clarity, weed growth and general water condition. Troubleshoot or report any problems observed with lakes or streams. Check pumps and fountains in all water structures. Maintain a supply of lake maintenance chemicals, parts and supplies on assigned vehicle. Complete lake and stream work orders daily.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


  • Report for work at the appointed time, take breaks and lunch periods as scheduled and have no unexcused absences. Employee shall be dressed in the prescribed uniform prior to clocking in and will be prepared to go to work immediately.

  • Maintain proper lake levels daily. Check well pumps and related equipment. Adjust valves that control lake levels as needed.

  • Check and maintain lake clarity daily. Use proper chemicals when required to maintain clarity. Check for odors and source if any.

  • Use proper chemicals to control plants and algae that can affect the condition of the lakes or the irrigation process. Know proper application rates and observe all safety precautions.

  • Skim and remove weed growth as may be required to maintain the health of the lake. Monitor growth rates and adjust schedule to correct any potential problems.

  • Practice safe handling of all lake chemicals and properly store excess chemicals. Dispose of empty containers in a safe, proper manner. Use adequate health protection methods at all times. Utilize all safety equipment which pertains to the job being performed.

  • Maintain an accurate and complete log of all chemicals used in the maintenance of all lakes.

  • Observe the operation of fountain in all lakes in which they are installed. Report any fountain which is not operating to the Landscape Foreman, Operations Director or to Maintenance.

  • Fill in for the pool and spa maintenance person in case of days off, vacation or illness. Assignment will be made by the Landscape Foreman or Operations Director.

  • Participate in periodic training and instructional sessions which will enhance the ability, safety and effectiveness of the employee.

  • Maintain adequate supplies of all chemicals and materials used the lake maintenance. Maintain vehicle in safe condition at all time. Insure that preventive maintenance is performed on a regular basis.

  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Flood Emergency Procedures which are posted in the Operations Director’s office. A copy will be made available to each employee.

  • Treat all with whom you come in contact with the same respect that you expect for yourself. This includes fellow workers, supervisors, management and owners, guests and renters.

  • Perform additional duties as may be assigned by the Landscape Foreman or Operations Director.
