Cancer Registrar Full Time Days - Desert Regional Medical Center - Palm Springs, CA
The Cancer Registry is a data collection, storage, and dissemination system that processes information on all cancer patients seen at DRMC and Comprehensive Cancer Center of the Desert. The Cancer Registry operates under the mandate of the State of California, Department of Health Services, and California Cancer Registry. The Cancer Registry is located in the Health Information Department.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
a) Compiles and maintains records of hospital patients treated for cancer to provide data for physicians, research studies and tumor board, utilizing designated tumor registry data system.
b) Review hospital records to identify and compile patient data for use in cancer management program and comply with state, national and government regulations.

c) Abstract and code data, such as demographic, tumor staging, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment, and enter in designated data/reporting system(s).
d) Contact discharged patients, their families and physicians to maintain registry with follow-up information such as quality of life and length of survival of cancer patients.
e) Prepares statistical and regulatory required reports and surveys including narrative reports and graphic presentations of tumor registry data for use by hospital staff, researchers and other users of registry data.
f) Coordinates and provides administrative support for the Cancer Committee and the Tumor Board.
Qualifications
:
Required:
Must have certification by the National Cancer Registrar’s Association and have completed Post Secondary college level classes in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
Preferred:
At least two years experience as certified cancer registrar in an acute care hospital.
