Part-Time Homemaker - Desert AIDS Project - Palm Springs, CA





Reports to: Home Care Services Supervisor

Status: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt


POSITION PURPOSE


Provide in-home support for clients who are too ill to perform household chores. In-home caregiver provides homemaker services for a range of household services necessary for the maintenance of individuals in the home setting to prevent or postpone institutionalization when long or short-term illness and disability require supportive, therapeutic or compensatory services to sustain independent living.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES


The following reflects management definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons. Homemaker Services include:


  • Sweeping, vacuuming and /or washing floor surfaces;

  • Washing kitchen counters and sinks;

  • Cleaning the bathroom;

  • Storing food and supplies;

  • Taking out garbage;

  • Dusting and picking up;

  • Routine cleaning of oven, stove and/or microwave;

  • Cleaning and defrosting refrigerator. Assisting with disposal of expired items;

  • Changing bed linen;

  • Promotes a safe environment by removing or reporting hazardous debris or dirt;

  • Meal preparation & clean up;

  • Routine laundry, ironing, folding and storing of clothes on hangers, on shelves or in drawers;

  • Reasonable local shopping and errands limited to the nearest available stores;

  • Services to enable individuals to carry out their service plans such as accompanying them to medical appointments, on a limited basis;

  • Reports all observed or stated patient changes to case manager;

  • Prepares timely, legible and complete documentation of all care provided; returns documentation to office/department according to established policy;

  • Documents all communication with providers;

  • Participates in care coordination meetings as needed;

  • Recognizes limitations in providing care and performs prescribed duties as allowed by law;

  • Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families and other healthcare professionals;

  • Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality;

  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager;

  • Annual AIDS 101/102.

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES

  • High school diploma or equivalent;

  • One to two years related experience or equivalent;

  • Must possess valid driver’s license, auto insurance and reliable transportation. Able to transport self & client within the community;

  • Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex. environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline;

  • Strong charting/documentation skills;

  • Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols;

  • Commitment to excellence and high standards;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow;

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within. Constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm;

  • Ability to work independently;

  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions;

  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player;

  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds;

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions;

  • Bilingual skills a plus;

  • Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling emergencies.
