Peer Youth Specialist - Safehouse of the Desert - Thousand Palms, CA






We are looking to hire a Part Time Peer Youth Specialist for the Cup of Happy Program at SafeHouse of the Desert in Thousand Palms. The Cup of Happy program is a prevention and early intervention program designed to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health issues for youth 16-25 years of age. We focus on providing healthy lifestyles and emotional wellness through a number of different programs that include creative writing courses, open mic nights, youth leadership classes, and LGBTQ support groups. We promote these activities through health fairs, school campuses, school clubs/organizations, Youth Opportunity Centers, and local youth “hangouts”. Groups are held Monday through Friday, with some weekend hours for events, such as health fairs, conventions, trainings, etc.


The candidate must be 18-25 years old (specific age requirement for peer to peer) with a flexible schedule, reliable transportation, clean driving record and current California license, cell phone and email who also meets at least one of the following criteria: 1. A current or former foster youth 2. Currently attending or transitioning into college 3. Have experienced being homeless at some point in your life 4. Identify as LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Questioning). Bilingual Spanish speaking is a plus though not required. We provide services in all of the Coachella Valley, from Thermal to Banning. The ideal candidate is outgoing, personable, and not afraid of public speaking. Our most urgent need is for a person living in the Indio, Thermal, Salton Sea area, but will consider anyone within our service boundaries.
