Job Summary:


Under direction, serves as liaison between the district, home and community to provide information and assistance to limited and non-English speaking students and parents; provides clerical support services, relieving project teachers of administrative and clerical detail.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Assists
    in the referrals to community agencies and organizations for clothing, housing, medical and dental care, welfare, employment and other forms of assistance for the purpose of providing assistance and guidance as required.

  • Assists
    administrators, other office personnel, the community, outside agencies, etc. for the purpose of providing support, information and backup of assignments and coordinating activities.

  • Communicates
    with parents to explain school programs and health requirements, verify absences and schedule appointments; maintaining records of home visits for the purpose of providing assistance and promoting involvement in school and community activities.

  • Interprets
    for limited and non-English speaking students and parents for a variety of conferences and meetings with school administers and specialists for the purpose of communicating information and providing assistance as required.

  • Maintains
    files and records (i.e. student attendance and health records, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and availability of required information.

  • Performs
    home visits and provides transportation to medical appointments and other community programs for the purpose of providing support and assistance as needed.

  • Processes
    materials and documents for the purpose of disseminating to appropriate parties.

  • Translates
    a variety of written documents (i.e. letters, memos, fliers, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to other District personnel, the public and parents.

Essential Job Requirements – Qualifications:

  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
    Skill to provide assistance and information to parents and serve as liaison between school, home and community. Knowledge of community resources and social service agencies. Knowledge of school programs, district requirements, objectives and policies. Ability to understand and communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds. Ability to deal with differences in human behavior resulting from cultural, ethnic or financial variances. Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish both orally and in writing.

  • Physical Requirements:
    Employees in this classification stand, walk, sit use fingers repetitively, use wrists or hands repetitively in a twisting motion or while applying pressure, use both hands simultaneously, have rapid mental/muscular coordination, lift moderately heavy objects; good speaking and hearing abilities; bending at the waist, kneeling and crouching; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; stooping; ascending and descending stairs; sitting for long periods at a desk and in front of a computer; have the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 5 plus pounds and constantly lift a minimum of 0 pounds; have the capability to push 10 pounds maximum force and possess the capability to pull 10 pounds maximum force. Persons with certain disabilities may be capable of performing the duties of the classification. Such determination must be made on an individual basis by the District’s medical examiner, taking into consideration the nature of the disability, prosthetic aid and the duties of this position.

  • Work Environment:
    Employees in this classification work inside with exposure to minor contagious illnesses (colds, flu, etc.) in direct contact with the public and other District staff, without direct guidance from supervisor, with a high volume of work and tight deadlines, continuous changing priorities and interruptions. May require exposure to extreme weather conditions for moderate periods of time. Other Atmospheric Conditions include Fumes and Odors (Copier supplies); Dust (Dust and paper dust).

  • Education and Training Required:
    High School graduate or equivalent and one (1) year clerical experience.

  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:

    • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid First Aid Certificate within 90 days after initiation of employment.

    • Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.

    • Tuberculosis clearance.

    • Written examination/translation examination

    • Typing examination at 45 net words per minute from clear copy.
