WELFARE FRAUD INVESTIGATOR - County of Riverside - Riverside County, CA





The Department of Public Social Services, Administrative Services Division is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of WELFARE FRAUD INVESTIGATOR for the Special Investigations Unit. This posting will build an eligibility pool that will be used to fill vacancies for the next six months. The department is anticipating multiple vacancies opening throughout Riverside County.

The ideal candidate for this position will have sworn law enforcement experience or a background in public assistance investigation, as well as, working knowledge of public assistance laws, rules, and regulations. Bilingual Spanish skill is desired, but not required. This department offers challenging work with upward mobility.


Essential duties for this position will include the following, but are not limited to:


  • Reviews case files to locate alleged violations, determines validity of allegations, and extracts case file information useful to the investigation.

  • Locates and interviews suspected persons, absent parents, witnesses, and company and agency representatives to obtain and verify information and evidence; analyzes and evaluates statements, information, and evidence obtained through interviews and investigations.

  • Prepares and serves search warrants; examines a variety of records to secure information concerning suspected violations; gathers and assembles reports, statements, affidavits, and other forms of evidence for use in legal actions; gathers, preserves, analyzes, and evaluates physical evidence for presentation in hearings and court; uses electronic and electronic data processing equipment to collect evidence.

  • Interprets, explains, and applies provisions of laws, rules, and regulations related to the investigation.

  • Prepares subjects for photo line-up to identify suspects; prepares and processes extradition forms; identifies, investigates, detains, and arrests suspects and appears in court to provide required information; files criminal complaints with the District Attorney’s Office.

  • Acts as a liaison between DPSS and the District Attorney’s Office.

  • Conducts special investigations of internal affairs matters, applicant’s background, alleged civil rights violations, DPSS court dependent problems, and other issues as directed.

  • Prepares correspondence and investigative and related reports.
