Community Outreach Specialist - RM - Braille Institute of America, Inc. - Rancho Mirage, CA

Braille Institute of America, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to eliminate blindness and severe sight loss as a barrier to the fulfillment of life. Through educational training, programs and services, Braille Institute helps people regain and maintain their independence through five regional centers (Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Orange County, Rancho Mirage, and San Diego) and through more than 135 community outreach programs.

We currently are seeking a Community Outreach Specialist for our Rancho Mirage Regional Center.

This position will be responsible for:

• Managing Spanish language outreach efforts for the El Poder Sin Ver initiative including conducting classes and presentations;


• Engaging with current vision service related partnerships and work with partners to identify new program opportunities;


• Providing Outreach at Health fairs and other community events as well providing presentations;


• Actively assist the Educational Programs Manager with Outreach and enhance overall Outreach efforts.

Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma or equivalent, a Bachelors’ degree in marketing, journalism, or social work is preferred;


• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required;


• Must have good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;


• Must have excellent organizational and computer skills;


• Working knowledge of marketing tools and techniques and visual marketing;


• Prior work experience working with visually impaired or disabled community preferred.


• Valid drivers license with clean driving record required.
