North Shore Greenhouses, a privately owned culinary herb grower, shipper and marketer located in the beautiful Coachella Valley is looking for a Human Resource Specialist.


The Human Resource Specialist is a vital part in keeping our human resources department running effectively and proficiently. In this role you will develop policies, direct and coordinate human resource activities, such as employment, compensation, benefits, compliance, training, and employee services. You will be supervising the clerical assistant and overseeing the safety program for the company.
Our products are grown hydroponically in greenhouses that utilize solar power and geothermal energy helping us to be the first herb grower in the United States to be Sustainably Grown Certified. Responsibilities:


  • Develop and maintain a human resources system that meets the wide variety of top management information needs.

  • Oversee the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local governing bodies, or other departments in the organization.

  • Responsible to identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.

  • Responsible for the recruiting process- recruits, interviews, tests, and writing offer letters to fill vacant positions.

  • Responsible for planning and conducting new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward Company goals.

  • Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.

  • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relation issues.

  • Responsible for maintenance of Celeratime time card system including employee schedules, recording of hours, and system upgrades.

  • Investigates sensitive complaints/allegations and work with managers to address areas of concern

  • Works with the Safety Manager to investigate accidents and helps prepare reports for insurance carrier. Responsible to insure safety meetings are held and records of all training are kept up to date.

  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.

  • Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.

  • Contracts with outside suppliers to provide employee services, such as temporary employees, search firms, or relocation services.

  • Insures the Company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are complete and reviewed annually.

Required Skills:


  • Must demonstrate the highest level of integrity, ethical behavior and be able to maintain confidential information.

  • Able to manage and mentor direct reports

  • Must have attention to detail and great organizational skills

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse group of people

Desired Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university

  • Seven years of progressively responsible HR experience, including a leadership role

  • Fluent in California Labor Law

  • Human Resource Certification PHR or SPHR preferred

  • Spanish and agricultural background is a plus but not required
