Job Summary:
Under direction, performs skilled mechanical maintenance in overhauling and repairing buses, passenger vehicles, trucks and other district motorized

equipment; performs or lead in general servicing activities.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Diagnoses potential vehicle malfunctions for the purpose of determining needed vehicle repairs and/or replacements.

  • Executes preventive vehicle maintenance programs for the purpose of maintaining vehicles in a safe operating condition.

  • Maintains tools, equipment and/or shop area for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment within a safe

work area.


  • Prepares documentation (e.g. repairs, maintenance records etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or information to comply with

regulating guidelines.


  • Repairs all district motorized equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability of equipment in safe operating condition on.

  • Replaces defective vehicle parts/systems for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles in a safe operating condition.

Other Job Functions:

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Essential Job Requirements – Qualifications:

  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skill in the operation and care of internal combustion engines, chassis and parts and replacements.

Skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment used in the diagnosis, maintenance, adjustment and repair of automotive equipment. Skill in the cost

estimating of repairs. Skill in the ability to provide leadership to personnel within an organizational setting. Skill in coordinating and scheduling

activities to assure timely maintenance and repairs. Knowledge of tools, equipment and procedures used in the repair and adjustment of motor

equipment. Knowledge of the principles and methods used in preventive maintenance for automotive equipment. Knowledge of fuel, ignition, electrical

and cooling systems. Knowledge of health and safety regulations. Ability to inspect and repair buses.


  • Physical Requirements: The Office of Classified Personnel Services embraces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The requirements of the

position are maintained in the Personnel Department; and, individuals shall be able to perform the essential functions of the position.


  • Education and Training Required: High school graduate or equivalent and two (2) years journey-level experience in the repair and maintenance of

automotive and heavy power-driven equipment.


  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

  • Valid California drivers license.

  • Drug Testing Clearance.

  • Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.

  • Tuberculosis clearance.

  • Written examination.

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers license within thirty (30) days after initiation of employment.

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Forklift Certification within thirty (30) days after initiation of employment.
